Development

Directions: Select a five minute video of
preschool children to use for this project. You can choose any video that you
find interesting. It is suggested that you start by going to YouTube and type
in search phrases such as preschool children or preschool aged
children at play. Finding the videos is your responsibility. I realize not
every video will work perfectly for this project. Find one that is close. For
any items not observed, write N/A.

Directions: You have learned about cognitive,
socio-emotional and physical domains/development. For this project, synthesize
what you have learned about each area of development into one paper. Your paper
should include the following topics (with related headings):
Cognitive Development - Write about what you have learned
and give at least 2-3 concrete examples of how you will apply the information
to your own classroom, home setting, etc. Cite and reference your points.
Socio-Emotional
Development -
Write about what you have learned and give at least 2-3 concrete examples of how
you will apply the information to your own classroom, home setting, etc. You
may use fictional scenarios to help clarify your examples. Cite and reference
your points.
Physical Development -Write about a fictional child who is
struggling in this area. Include concrete steps to help him or her and include
ways to monitor your results and the child's progress. Cite and reference your
points.
Summary/Conclusion-Include a summary that synthesizes
what you have learned about all three areas of development. Explain how the
three areas overlap and why they are important to understand, observe, and
attend to in classrooms or other settings.

Final Assignment
Due: Due by 11:59 p.m., ET, Sunday
at the end of Week 8
Directions: The final assignment is your chance to
demonstrate how you will use data to drive your instruction. First, find a
video on YouTube or another platform that allows you to observe a child. Next,
use any observation technique that you choose to collect data on the child.
Write a synopsis with information from your observation. Finally, create a
classroom-type of activity that addresses the unique needs of the student you
observed. Think about an introduction activity, an individual and/or small
group experience, and a closing wrap up. Use research to back up your ideas.
Cover Page-Include your name, course title, and assignment
title.
Synopsis-Include a link to the video you used for this
project. Give details about what you observed and be specific with regard to
the three domains we learned about. Use references throughout this section.
Include the tool you used to collect data (checklist, anecdotal record, etc.).
Write about the activity plan you will design to meet the needs of the student.
Give concrete details. This section should be at least three paragraphs long.
Activity Plan-Include the objective or goal of your activity.
Give step-by-step details for each aspect (opening activity, group experiences,
closure/wrap up).
Conclusion-Include a conclusion section that allows you to
reflect on the entire project. What did you learn? What would you change? Make
connections between the course content and your final project. This section
should be at least one to three paragraphs long.
References-Include a reference page using APA style.
